Top defense options to consider for fantasy football in Week 15

The fantasy football playoffs are here, and bye weeks are officially over. This is like an early holiday for fantasy football managers, especially those who are streaming defenses. With a plethora of options available on the waiver wire, this week presents a fantastic opportunity for managers looking to optimize their lineup based on matchups.

A few of the top-scoring defenses of the season do have challenging matchups in Week 15, which can be frustrating. However, the silver lining is that there are still plenty of viable streaming options out there. For those in need of a new starter, let’s dive into the three best streaming defenses available in at least 50% of ESPN fantasy football leagues for Week 15.

1. Baltimore Ravens (@ NYG) — 51.9% Available

The Baltimore Ravens are probably the best fantasy football defense for Week 15, regardless of their roster percentage. The fact that they can be picked up off the waiver wire in most leagues is an opportunity you simply can’t ignore.

Why is this matchup so enticing? The New York Giants are having a disastrous season, and that’s been a boon for opposing defenses. Since parting ways with Daniel Jones, the Giants have allowed 10, 17, and 10 fantasy points to the defenses they’ve faced. These are not elite units, ranking 19th, 22nd, and 24th in scoring on the season.

What does this mean for the Ravens? Well, “defense against the Giants” has turned into a profitable strategy, averaging 12.3 fantasy points per game against them. To put that into perspective, there isn’t a single defense averaging that many points this season! While the Ravens may not have been a top-tier fantasy defense overall, they are a solid real-world unit, currently sitting 10th in PFF’s overall defensive grade. There’s every reason to believe they can capitalize on this matchup and deliver a strong performance.

2. New York Jets (@ JAX) — 57.8% Available

Next up, we have the New York Jets. While they’ve disappointed in various aspects this season, their defense has shown flashes of brilliance, scoring 11-plus points on five occasions. This inconsistency can translate into a high ceiling, especially when they find themselves in favorable matchups.

And what could be more favorable than facing the Jacksonville Jaguars? The Jags have struggled, particularly with quarterback Mac Jones, who has thrown a combined five interceptions in his last three starts. This has resulted in defenses scoring 13, 10, and 9 fantasy points against him.

Isn’t it time to keep targeting Mac Jones? Just like we discussed last week with the Titans, the Jets have a golden opportunity to capitalize on his struggles. If they can find their rhythm, they could easily provide a significant boost to your fantasy lineup.

3. Washington Commanders (@ NO) — 70.4% Available

Finally, let’s talk about the Washington Commanders. Coming off a bye week, they are available in about 70% of leagues, despite ranking in the middle tier for fantasy scoring. But don’t let that fool you; they have a matchup that could elevate them into the top-10 range.

The New Orleans Saints are expected to be without their starting quarterback, Derek Carr, which could spell trouble for their offense. FanDuel Sportsbook has Washington as a 7.5-point favorite, indicating they might be playing with a lead. This scenario often leads to obvious passing situations for the opposing team, creating opportunities for sacks and turnovers.

In fact, New Orleans gave up an alarming 16.3 fantasy points per game during the three weeks Carr missed earlier this season. They didn’t allow fewer than 12 points to any of those three opponents. Even a Washington defense that has faced its share of struggles should be able to take advantage of this situation and continue that trend.

So, as we gear up for Week 15, remember that the streaming defense landscape is rich with opportunities. The Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, and Washington Commanders all have matchups that could lead to significant fantasy points.

With the playoffs on the line, make sure to assess your options carefully. Are you ready to take a chance on one of these defenses? The right choice could be the difference between advancing or going home. Happy streaming, and may your fantasy playoffs be filled with success!
