Austin Ekeler’s Concussion Recovery Takes Him Back to Virginia for Specialized Treatment

Austin Ekeler has returned to Virginia for concussion treatment, focusing on his recovery with specialists

The Commanders’ win against the Bengals on Monday night was bittersweet as their standout running back, Austin Ekeler, was diagnosed with a concussion during the second half. Adding salt to the wound, Coach Dan Quinn confirmed Ekeler did not accompany the team to Arizona post-game.

Ekeler’s Swift Return to Ashburn

Given the Commanders’ tight schedule out West for their upcoming faceoff with the Cardinals, Ekeler quickly headed back to Ashburn, Virginia to commence his journey through the concussion protocol. Talk about a zig when you should zag!

Ears to the Ground

In addition to his concussion, Ekeler is also nursing a laceration on his ear. This could very well feel like adding insult to injury, or as we say in Peru, “Eso es ponerle sal a la herida”. Coach Dan Quinn didn’t sugarcoat the situation but remained hopeful about Ekeler’s recovery.

A Flash of Brilliance!

Despite his untimely exit, Ekeler showcased his immense talent during the game. In his debut season with the Commanders, he racked up some impressive numbers: three carries for 35 yards and a dynamic touchdown. His stats sheet further glittered with two catches for 22 receiving yards.

The 62-Yard Magic

Beyond those stats, Ekeler performed a showstopper moment. His 62-yard kickoff return early in the second half wasn’t merely a dash across the grass; it was a spectacular sprint that set up Washington’s fourth touchdown of the game. With engines roaring and fans on their feet, Ekeler’s electrifying run was nothing short of breathtaking.

For all Commanders fans out there, while Austin Ekeler’s situation is certainly a cause for concern, his stellar performance on the field gives us plenty of reasons to be optimistic about what’s to come. After all, this is the NFL where surprises are guaranteed, and Ekeler’s journey is just beginning—concussions and lacerations be damned!
