Bills face uncertainty as key leader may depart in 2025 under Allen and McDermott

Josh Allen and Sean McDermott are keeping their eyes firmly on the prize as the 2024 NFL playoffs loom. However, the Buffalo Bills are already grappling with the potential loss of a key leader in 2025. As the postseason approaches, the focus is not just on the games ahead but also on the future of the coaching staff.

Brady’s rising profile in the NFL

With several teams already looking ahead to next season, Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady has found himself in the spotlight. Following a successful 2024 season, he is being linked to various head coaching vacancies across the league. The Jacksonville Jaguars have confirmed their interest, requesting an interview with McDermott’s trusted assistant.

But the Jaguars are not alone in their pursuit. Brady has also attracted attention from the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Chicago Bears, all of whom are on the lookout for new head coaches as they prepare for the 2025 NFL season.

The impact of losing Joe Brady

Brady has established himself as an invaluable asset for the Bills, especially in maximizing the potential of quarterback Josh Allen. Initially joining as quarterbacks coach in 2022, he quickly became a pivotal figure on McDermott’s staff, earning a promotion to interim offensive coordinator in 2023.

His impressive performance led to him being named the permanent offensive coordinator the following year. With his name now circulating in head coaching discussions, the prospect of losing him poses a significant challenge for both Allen and McDermott. The chemistry they have built could be jeopardized, impacting the team’s performance moving forward.

Brady’s commitment to the Bills

Despite the swirling rumors and interest from other franchises, Brady is providing the Bills with reasons to remain optimistic. As the 2025 NFL playoffs approach, he has made it clear that his primary goal is to lead Buffalo to a coveted Super Bowl victory.

There really doesn’t need to be much of a balance because my focus is strictly on trying to win a Super Bowl here and us trying to find a way to win this game this week,” Brady stated confidently to reporters on Monday.

This commitment to the team is crucial, especially as the Bills prepare for their upcoming playoff matchup against the Denver Broncos. Brady emphasized that any potential interviews for head coaching positions would not distract him from his responsibilities in Buffalo.

“The reality of it is some of the interviews, if interviews happen, would be next week, so nothing for me to even think about right now and just focus on Denver,” he added, acknowledging his aspiration to be a head coach in the NFL. “Do I aspire to be a head coach? Yeah, I would love to, given the right opportunity. I’m honored to even [have] the name be thrown out there, but right now, my focus is to find a way to win a football game this week.”
