The Cleveland Browns will face the rest of the season without one of their promising stars. Wide receiver David Bell is set to undergo surgery for a dislocated hip and will unfortunately miss the remainder of the season, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed during Monday’s press briefing.
Bell, just 23 years old, was taken off the field on a stretcher shortly after the second half began in Sunday’s hard-fought 18-13 victory over Jacksonville. The incident occurred following a solid 6-yard reception when he was tackled from behind by Arik Armstead, prompting on-field trainers to swiftly attend to him.
“I feel sorry for David, but he will recover,” Stefanski expressed, reflecting both concern and optimism for his young player.
In his season debut, Bell managed to amass three receptions for 27 yards, showing flashes of his potential. Selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Bell has compiled an impressive 41 receptions, 408 yards, and three touchdowns over his 32-game career, including six starts. As he entered what’s set to be his breakthrough third season, hopes were high for him to make a substantial impact on the field.
Adding to the Browns’ injury woes, Stefanski also announced that running back Pierre Strong will be week-to-week due to a hamstring injury, while defensive back Ogbonnia Okoronkwo has successfully cleared concussion protocol, bringing a sigh of relief to fans and teammates alike.
Despite the setback, the Browns sit at a balanced 1-1 record as they prepare to host the New York Giants (0-2) this upcoming Sunday. The team and its loyal fans will undoubtedly feel the absence of Bell, but the Browns are determined to press on and rally around each other as they tackle the remainder of the season.
