Chargers QB Justin Herbert Avoids Major Ankle Injury, Cleared After Tests

Chargers QB Justin Herbert's ankle injury tests negative, indicating no significant damage or long-term issues.

In a breath-holding moment for Chargers fans, Justin Herbert received some reassuring news post-game – the star quarterback’s ankle X-rays came back negative as reported by NFL Network on Monday.

However, that doesn’t entirely put the matter to rest. According to reports, Herbert will continue to be monitored this week, keeping the entire Chargers nation on the edge of their seats.

The fear arose from Herbert’s noticeable limp off the field in the third quarter during Sunday’s 20-10 road loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The cause? A lingering pain from a previously sprained ankle which had already made him questionable for the match.

Post-game, Herbert, seen in a walking boot, admitted that the increased pain during the game was indeed a result of his previous injury. His early exit was a significant blow; he had completed 12 of 18 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown before being sidelined.

When Herbert left the field, it was Taylor Heinicke who took over at center. Heinicke’s brief play saw him completing 2 of 2 passes for 24 yards, but regrettably, the Chargers couldn’t put any more points on the board and were shut out for the remainder of the game.

This wasn’t Herbert’s first brush with injury issues this season. The 26-year-old quarterback had already missed two practices and was limited in another last week due to the same sprained ankle.

The injury shadow looms over the Chargers. Looking ahead, they face a fierce opponent—hosting the Kansas City Chiefs—next Sunday. With the Chargers sitting at (2-1) and the Chiefs undefeated at (3-0), the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Stay tuned, folks! Will our star quarterback bounce back in time to face the Chiefs? As always, keep your eyes locked here for all updates and insights on your favorite team. Bolt up!
