In a heartbreaking update for Chiefs fans, **Kansas City wide receiver Rashee Rice** is not expected to hit the field again this season. The **NFL Network** reports that the dynamic athlete requires a surgery to repair his lateral cruciate ligament (LCL) in his right knee.
Scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, Rice faces a challenging **three-month recovery**. Thankfully, it’s not all bad news; his **ACL and other ligaments** are reportedly in good shape, which should support a smoother comeback.
The unfortunate injury occurred in the opening quarter of the Chiefs’ **17-10 victory** over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 29. A collision with his star quarterback, **Patrick Mahomes**, during a surprise interception by Chargers cornerback **Kristian Fulton** led to the mishap. As Mahomes worked heroically to tackle Fulton, Rice swooped in to force a fumble, only for Mahomes to inadvertently slam into Rice’s knee in the process.
Placing Rice on injured reserve this week was a tough blow for **Kansas City**, particularly as they dive into a critical juncture of their schedule. Currently undefeated, the Chiefs stand at (4-0) as they head into their much-needed bye week. Upcoming games feature a visit to **San Francisco** on Oct. 20, another away game at **Las Vegas** on Oct. 27, and a thrilling home clash against **Tampa Bay** set for Nov. 4.
Rice has been pivotal this season. Impressively leading his team in receptions (24), targets (29), receiving yards (288), and touchdowns (two, tied with Xavier Worthy), he is shaping up into a truly remarkable career. Drafted as a **second-round pick** in 2023 out of SMU, Rice’s stats speak volumes with 103 catches for 1,226 yards and nine touchdowns over 20 career regular-season games, including 12 starts.
While this injury is a significant setback, there’s no doubt that **Rashee Rice** has the talent and tenacity to dominate once he’s back on the gridiron. Chiefs Kingdom and NFL enthusiasts everywhere will eagerly await his return.
