Colt McCoy, former NFL quarterback, retires and transitions to a career in broadcasting with NBC's Big Ten coverage.

Veteran quarterback Colt McCoy has decided to hang up his cleats and step into the spotlight of the broadcast booth. McCoy is joining NBC Sports for Big Ten coverage this season.

He will make his analyst debut in a highly anticipated clash when Colorado takes on Nebraska on September 7.

College football has always had a special place in my heart. With the expansion of the Big Ten and the new era of college football, it’s the perfect time to join NBC Sports,” McCoy stated in a press release on Monday. “I look forward to sharing the passion, excitement and competitive spirit each week!

McCoy, now 37, enjoyed a 12-season stint in the NFL, appearing in 56 games (36 starts) and passing for 7,975 yards with 34 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. He accumulated an 11-25 record while playing for five franchises: the Cleveland Browns (2010-12), San Francisco 49ers (2013), Washington (2014-15, 2017-19), the New York Giants (2020), and the Arizona Cardinals (2021-22).

During the 2023 offseason, McCoy was released by the Cardinals, marking the end of an era but the beginning of a thrilling new chapter.

Thank you football,” McCoy expressed on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. “Excited for the next chapter.”

Drafted by the Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Texas, McCoy was a force to be reckoned with in college football. He was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist and left the Longhorns as the winningest quarterback in NCAA Division I history, amassing 45 wins from 2006 to 2009.

During his illustrious career at Texas, Colt McCoy starred in many of college football’s biggest games and fiercest rivalries,” remarked Sam Flood, executive producer and chairman of NBC Sports. “What a way to start Colorado-Nebraska!
