Commanders Cut Ties with Kicker Cade York After Costly Field Goal Flops

The Commanders have parted ways with PK Cade York following his disappointing performance, missing two critical field goals.

The Washington Commanders made a significant move on Monday by waiving kicker Cade York following his crucial misses during Sunday’s season opener, a tough 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

York’s performance left much to be desired, as he missed two vital field goals—one from 56 yards and another from 47 yards—which undoubtedly affected the Commanders’ momentum.

It’s worth noting this decision comes just three weeks after Washington traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for the second-year kicker. York’s recent struggles starkly contrast his rookie year in Cleveland, where he showed promise by making 24 of 32 field goal attempts after being selected in the fourth round of the draft. Unfortunately, a difficult training camp in 2023 led to his release by the Browns.

Looking ahead, it appears that Washington won’t leave any room for mistakes. There are multiple reports suggesting the Commanders are set to bring in Austin Seibert to step up as their kicker. Seibert, now 27, comes with a solid track record, having made 45 of his 56 field goal attempts over his five-year NFL career.

The Commanders, currently eyeing redemption, are gearing up to host the New York Giants (0-1) this coming Sunday. Fans can expect an intense matchup as both teams seek to claim their first victory of the season.
