Commanders Eye More WR Shake-ups

The Commanders may still be exploring options to enhance their wide receiver lineup, suggesting more changes ahead.

The Washington Commanders might not be done. Adam Peters once again showed no consideration for division rivalries by trading wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles. It seemed as if the former first-round pick’s role was in flux under new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. The Commanders got plenty of calls and the general manager accepted the best offer.

That’s the long and short of it, at least initially. However, rumors are circulating about Peters having something else up his sleeve to bolster Washington’s wideout room before Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Lynnell Willingham from 106.7 The Fan declared that the Commanders might not be finished with their wide receiver transactions after speaking to a national reporter. This caused widespread speculation among the fanbase, with names such as CeeDee Lamb and, more obviously, Brandon Aiyuk, becoming the hot topic for discussion.

Peters has a plan in place and won’t deviate from it. He didn’t think much of Ron Rivera’s roster building – Dotson is the latest in a long line of draft picks from the previous regime who’ve been made surplus to requirements. The Commanders could use another prolific pass-catcher to smooth rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ important first year in the pros. At the same time, the new front-office leader might be content with what he has.

Nobody knows for sure. Peters ran a tight ship with no leaks within the building during his pre-draft process. It would be a surprise if he suddenly became receptive to inquiries from insiders around the media. That doesn’t stop the rumor mill from churning, but it’s a waiting game until told otherwise.

Fans are on the edge of their seat. Peters is an aggressive general manager who won’t hesitate to make moves whether the fanbase agrees with them or not. If there’s another trade to be had that he thinks can help the franchise – whether that be outgoings or an incoming – he’ll pull the trigger without a second thought.

There needs to be a level of trust attached here. Fans are apprehensive after so many failed personnel moves over the last two decades. They are right to be cautious, but Peters is a respected executive with proven credentials. He knows how to build a contender, so staying the course and not becoming reactionary is the right approach for the team’s long-suffering support.

And who knows, perhaps this will work out for the best depending on who comes into the fold. Based on this report, there might not be much longer to wait.
