Doug Pederson’s Jaguars Face Early Struggles: Can They Bounce Back from 0-4?

Doug Pederson and the Jaguars express frustration after a winless 0-4 start, facing challenges ahead.

**Doug Pederson** faced tough questions about his job security on Sunday night as the **Jacksonville Jaguars** dropped their fourth consecutive game to kick off the **2024 NFL season**.

With heartbreaking defeats by five, four, and three points, alongside a crushing **37-point blowout against Buffalo** (47-10), the Jaguars are reeling. Including the five losses from their final six games of the **2023 season**, Jacksonville is currently enduring a brutal stretch with nine losses in 10 games. Next up, they host the **Indianapolis Colts** (2-2) this Sunday, setting up a critical clash.

An 0-5 start this season would conjure memories of the **Urban Meyer** debacle in 2021, igniting speculation about Pederson’s future.

Pederson acknowledged the frustration permeating among players and coaches, noting a stark contrast between practice performance and game-day execution.

Following a nail-biting **24-20 Week 4 loss** to the **Houston Texans**, Pederson seemed to shift some accountability to his players when questioned about assuming play-calling duties from offensive coordinator **Press Taylor**.

**”As coaches, we can’t go out and make plays. It’s a two-way street. So you guys can sit here and point fingers all you want and that’s fine. Point fingers at me, I can take it. That’s fine. I can take it, so do what you want. Ask me, say what you want, write, move on,”** he stated, showing resilience under pressure.

**Quarterback Trevor Lawrence** emphasized the importance of unity within the team.

**”No one is coming to save us. It’s our fault,”** he admitted, showcasing leadership.

**”There are things we did well (Sunday); we just need to do more,”** Lawrence added. **”And I don’t think we have to screw it up and start over.”**

Pederson currently holds an 18-20 record since taking over the Jaguars, beginning with consecutive 9-8 seasons. Historically, only the **1992 San Diego Chargers** have recovered from an 0-4 start to make the playoffs.

The pressure mounts as Meyer’s first win in 2021 came in London, a milestone the Jaguars hope to replicate when they face the **Chicago Bears** on October 13. Pederson highlighted the importance of the upcoming division games before the team’s departure for Houston. The **Colts recently secured a 27-24 victory** over the **Pittsburgh Steelers** on Sunday.

**”Really, these next two games and then trying to get back on track and put these first three games behind us,”** Pederson stated before Sunday’s loss. **”But they’re all great, they’re all important and the guys understand that and they’re prepared. They’re ready to play and we just have to go out and play.”**

Notably, Jacksonville convincingly defeated the Colts twice last season, winning both encounters by double digits. Can they reignite that spark and turn their season around? This week’s game might just hold the answer.
