Drake Maye Doubts Brissett as Patriot’s Starting QB

Drake Maye expresses uncertainty about whether Jacoby Brissett will be the starting quarterback for the Patriots.

Earlier today, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo highlighted an ongoing quarterback duel, even though Jacoby Brissett continues to take the lion’s share of reps with the first-team offense. In a notable comment, Mayo affirmed that rookie sensation Drake Maye is “100 percent” ready to command the huddle.

Drake Maye Speaks Up

The No. 3 overall pick, Drake Maye, weighed in on the heated competition, showering praise on Brissett for his professionalism and skill. “I think I’m just going to take advantage of my opportunities,” Maye explained, via Mike Reiss. “Jacoby has done a phenomenal job. He’s a stellar player and an even better teammate. He’s been working with the ones consistently, and I couldn’t be happier for him. Meanwhile, I’m just trying to capitalize on every chance I get – soaking up each rep and having some fun on the field.”

Is Brissett the Definite Starter?

In a follow-up question about whether Brissett is New England’s definitive starter, Maye added, “I’m not 100 percent sure,” via Chad Graff. “But Jacoby has played incredibly well and has been a fantastic mentor for me.”

Heading into the Preseason Finale

Maye is expected to get ample playing time this Sunday night as the Patriots go head-to-head with the Commanders in their final preseason clash. With a glint in his eye, the young quarterback seems poised to make the most of his time on the field.

  • Throughout August, Maye has completed 8-of-14 passes for 66 yards.
  • He’s also showcased his dual-threat capability, rushing four times for 15 yards, including a touchdown.

As the preseason winds down, the plot thickens in New England. This encapsulating quarterback competition has the Patriot nation on the edge of their seats, whether it’s in the stands or on their couches, clutching their remote controls and hoping for that one defining moment.

It’s almost poetic—a modern-day NFL drama unfolding before our eyes. Will it be Brissett, the seasoned stalwart with a wealth of experience, or Maye, the young bull ready to charge at every opportunity?

Get your popcorn ready, folks. The final act is about to begin!
