Eagles’ O-Line Takes a Hit: Mekhi Becton Suffers Leg Injury in Practice

Eagles' offensive lineman Mekhi Becton injures his leg during practice, raising concerns about his season.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Mekhi Becton exited practice on Sunday with an apparent right leg injury, according to multiple reports. The team and fans alike are holding their breath, awaiting further updates.

Becton, who has primarily excelled as an offensive tackle, is currently in intense competition to secure the starting right guard position, pitted against Tyler Steen. Steen himself was injured during the Eagles’ nail-biting 14-13 win over the host New England Patriots this past Thursday.

The Eagles made a strategic move in April, signing Becton, 25, to a one-year, $2.75 million contract. The hope was to bolster their offensive line with his formidable presence.

Originally the 11th overall pick by the New York Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft, Becton showcased his immense potential by starting 13 of his 14 games during his rookie season. Unfortunately, his journey has been marred by injuries, including a devastating knee injury in Week 1 of his sophomore season, which forced him to switch to right tackle. Yet, fate was unkind again as he missed the entire 2022 season due to another knee injury.

Standing at an imposing 6-foot-7 and weighing 363 pounds, Becton finally caught a break in 2023. He started all 16 games, participating in 95 percent of the offensive snaps. Despite his resilience and sheer willpower, the Jets decided not to exercise his fifth-year option.

Eagles fans were hopeful that this new chapter would allow Becton to thrive and prove his mettle once again. Here’s to hoping the injury is minor, and we can witness Becton bringing his A-game to Philadelphia!
