Fred Warner: Run Game Wrecker & Future Hall of Famer, Says Saleh

Robert Saleh praises Fred Warner's stellar defense, calling him a first-ballot Hall of Famer who stopped their run game.

The Jets amassed only 68 rushing yards on 19 carries and a mere three first downs on the ground during Monday night’s disheartening defeat to the 49ers. However, Jets head coach Robert Saleh attributes this woeful performance more to the 49ers’ ferocious defense than his own offense’s shortcomings.

La Máquina Fred Warner

Saleh pointed specifically to the dominance of 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, describing him as a force of nature that completely dismantled the Jets’ running game. The connection goes beyond the field; Saleh was the 49ers’ defensive coordinator during the first three years of Warner’s career, making this encounter a particularly poignant reunion.

“Fred is, I’ll go ahead and say it, the guy is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. I don’t know if a lot of people recognize that, but he is,” Saleh exclaimed emphatically. “At times during the game, it felt like there were three of him out there. The way he was running around was phenomenal. Coaching against him for the first time felt surreal. There were moments where he prevented plays that would be touchdowns against 25 other teams. So, credit to him, he’s an unbelievable football player, but our run game was damn close, just like the passing game was close. But obviously, we didn’t get the opportunities we wanted.”

Looking Ahead: Titans Up Next

On Sunday, Saleh’s Jets will lock horns with the Titans, a team that fortunately for the Jets, doesn’t have a Fred Warner prowling the field. This is a new chance for the Jets to shift gears and prove their worth. Will the Jets’ running offense rise from the ashes and steamroll a defense not guarded by a linebacker deity?

As Saleh prepares his warriors for this crucial clash, the expectant fans will be watching closely, hoping for a dramatic turnaround. It’s do or die time, and fortunes favor the brave. So, buckle up, Jets faithful, because Sunday promises to be a rollercoaster ride.
