James Franklin Reveals Preference: Facing Bulldogs or Notre Dame?

James Franklin emphasizes his strong preference for facing Bulldogs over Notre Dame in upcoming matchups.

The season for the Penn State Nittany Lions in the NCAAF has been nothing short of spectacular. After a decisive 31-14 victory over the Boise State Broncos in the Fiesta Bowl, the Nittany Lions have secured their place in the College Football Playoff semifinals. This triumph not only adds another trophy to their cabinet but also sets the stage for an exciting matchup against either the Georgia Bulldogs or the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Looking Ahead: The Next Challenge

The anticipation is palpable as the Nittany Lions prepare for their next challenge in the Orange Bowl, scheduled for January 9 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. The opponent will be determined from the upcoming clash between Georgia and Notre Dame. Fans are eager to see how Penn State will match up against these formidable foes.

Franklin’s Focus on Enjoyment

After the Fiesta Bowl victory, head coach James Franklin addressed the media. When asked about his preference for the next opponent, he was candid in his response. “Honestly, I want to enjoy this Boise win and this Fiesta Bowl win for a couple of hours. We’re going to enjoy the new year. We’re going to enjoy this win for a couple of hours, and then obviously we’ll start to get a little bit of a head start on these teams,” he stated.

Franklin emphasized the importance of savoring the moment before shifting focus. “But obviously, two great programs. Won a bunch of games. History, tradition, talent, coaching. At this point in the season, you’re going to play really good people, and we’re excited about that opportunity. But tonight, we want to enjoy this for a couple of hours. There will be plenty of time, and hours, to get focused on those next opponents,” he concluded.

Defensive Mastery Against Jeanty

One of the standout performances in the Fiesta Bowl came from the Nittany Lions’ defense, particularly in their ability to contain Boise State’s star running back, Ashton Jeanty. Leading up to the game, many wondered how Penn State would handle Jeanty’s explosive running style. Franklin expressed pride in his team’s defensive strategies, stating, “I think we did corral him. Not ‘sort of.’ I think we did corral. They got some yards there at the end. And I think defensively, our team was sick of me talking about him.”

He continued, “Even today, I think our defense would say they have a ton of respect for him and how many tackles he was able to break and how strong he is and the contact balance. He’s an impressive guy. But we’re pretty good on defense. Thought our D-line did a really good job of being disruptive and getting in the backfield. I thought we did a really good job gang-tackling. There were a few times where we didn’t wrap like we should have. But for the most part, our defense played lights out.”

Celebrating Milestones and Achievements

This season has been historic for the Nittany Lions, and Franklin took a moment to reflect on the milestones achieved. “Just a couple of things I’ll say. Thirteen wins, first time in program history. Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton both surpassing 1,000 yards in the same season. First time we’ve ever had two 1,000-yard rushers in the same season since joining the Big Ten [and in school history]. Then 34 wins over the last three years. We’re very, very proud of that. Consistency is hard to do, and our guys have done a great job at it. The maturity they’ve shown has been impressive. 8-0 in Fiesta Bowls. Penn State loves the Fiesta Bowl. We’ll come every year.”

These achievements not only highlight the team’s success but also reflect the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching staff. The Nittany Lions have established a winning culture that will serve them well as they move forward in the postseason.

The Road Ahead: A Bright Future

As the Nittany Lions gear up for their next game, the excitement surrounding the program continues to grow. With a strong roster and a coaching staff that knows how to win, Penn State is poised to make a deep run in the playoffs. The upcoming matchup against either Georgia or Notre Dame will test their mettle, but the confidence stemming from their recent success will undoubtedly play a crucial role.

Fans are left to wonder: can the Nittany Lions continue their winning streak? Will they rise to the occasion against another powerhouse program? One thing is for sure: the passion for college football is alive and well in Happy Valley, and the Nittany Lions are ready to make their mark on the national stage.

With the spirit of competition and the thrill of victory in the air, the Nittany Lions are not just playing for a title; they are playing for pride, tradition, and the love of the game. As they prepare for the next challenge, the entire Penn State community stands behind them, eager to see what this remarkable season will bring next.
