Jerry Jones Addresses Controversy Over Derrick Henry Comments

Jerry Jones dismisses inquiries regarding his comments on Derrick Henry, opting for silence on the matter.

After Sunday’s disheartening loss to the Ravens and their newly acquired running back, Derrick Henry, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sang a familiar tune, claiming his team didn’t chase after Henry because they couldn’t foot the bill.

However, we, along with many others, smell something fishy in Jerry’s narrative. The Cowboys had the dough; they just didn’t want Henry bad enough.

Jerry Jones Faces the Fire

The issue flared up during his Tuesday spot on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. And boy, did Jerry come out swinging!

Jerry Shuts Down the Question

The question was straightforward: “Jerry, you said after the game that Derrick Henry — you guys just couldn’t afford him. He’s a guy this year —”

Without missing a beat, Jones cut him off. “That’s correct,” he snapped. “That is very correct. Stop right there. That’s very correct. Part of what you would’ve paid him is going to players we paid in the past, and part of what you would have paid him is going forward in the future. But had I thought that that position this year was gonna make that kind of difference, and that’s what you save your bucks for. But it’s too complicated to point to a player. There’s too much at stake when you look at the entire offense and you look at what we’re doing and what we’re trying to do with the run game as opposed to the passing game. That’s too complicated to dwell on the fact that we don’t have a given player on the team.”

Here’s the Real Tea

Jerry can dress it up however he likes (he often does). Let’s call a spade a spade: the Cowboys could’ve afforded Henry if they felt like it. The cold, hard truth is they had their reasons — and money wasn’t one of them.

They made a deliberate choice not to sign him. They messed up. And it’s okay to admit it, especially when it’s as clear as day to everyone.

Y’all, sometimes in football and in life, you gotta own up to your fumbles. And this, right here, was a fumble.
