Packers Cut Ties with Kicker Greg Joseph

The Packers have released kicker Greg Joseph, opening up a spot on the roster for potential replacements.

The Packers held a kicking competition all summer, but the winner turned out to be someone who wasn’t on the roster at all. Shortly after the NFL announced that the Packers claimed former Titans kicker Brayden Narveson off waivers, the Packers announced that they had released Greg Joseph. The two moves came a day after the Packers cut 2023 sixth-round pick Anders Carlson. Joseph spent the last three seasons with the Vikings and went 83-of-101 on field goals. He made 112-of-124 extra points as well. He was 3-of-4 on field goals and 2-of-2 on extra points in the preseason. The Packers also announced that they have signed defensive lineman Deslin Alexandre, quarterback Sean Clifford, defensive lineman James Ester, kicker Alex Hale, wide receiver Julian Hicks, offensive lineman Donovan Jennings, cornerback Kalen King, running back Nate McCrary, running back Ellis Merriweather, cornerback Robert Rochell, offensive lineman Lecitus Smith, and tight end Messiah Swinson to their practice squad.

## Kickin’ it in Green Bay: A Summer Stunner!

Let’s take a deep breath and break down what just happened in Green Bay. This summer, the Packers hosted a heated kicking competition that turned out to be spicier than your abuela’s secret chili recipe. And guess what? The winner wasn’t even on the initial roster!

The excitement reached a fever pitch when the NFL announced that the Packers had snagged former Titans kicker Brayden Narveson off waivers. Talk about a plot twist! Almost immediately, the Packers swung the axe on Greg Joseph. And get this, just a day before, they had cut 2023 sixth-round pick Anders Carlson. Tough crowd, huh?

### From Purple to Green: The Greg Joseph Saga

Over in Minnesota, Greg Joseph was as solid as they come. Over the last three seasons with the Vikings, he boasted an impressive 83-of-101 on field goals and nailed 112-of-124 extra points. Not too shabby! This preseason, Joseph went 3-of-4 on field goals and hit 2-of-2 extra points, showing he had ice in his veins. But, as they say, “la pelota no siempre es redonda”—the ball isn’t always round—meaning, life’s full of surprises.

## Altering Destiny and Building Depth

Meanwhile, the Packers were busy beefing up their practice squad like a coach loading up his playbook for the Super Bowl. Here’s who’s gracing the roster:

  • Deslin Alexandre – A powerhouse on the defensive line
  • Sean Clifford – Our new quarterback prospect
  • James Ester – Another mighty defensive lineman
  • Alex Hale – A fresh kicker alongside Narveson
  • Julian Hicks – A sharp wide receiver
  • Donovan Jennings – A formidable presence on the offensive line
  • Kalen King – A nimble cornerback
  • Nate McCrary – A versatile running back
  • Ellis Merriweather – Another dynamic running back
  • Robert Rochell – Speedy cornerback
  • Lecitus Smith – Strong offensive lineman
  • Messiah Swinson – A tight end with potential

Each of these names represents a new chapter in the Packers’ ongoing saga—a blend of established grit and fresh potential, all eager to make their mark on Lambeau Field. Given the stakes, the rollercoaster of emotions, and the sheer unpredictability, it seems the Packers’ locker room is about to turn into a Shakespearean drama—filled with rising stars, fallen heroes, and the thrilling quest for gridiron glory.

Stay tuned, folks. This saga promises more twists than a salsa dance, and every player move is a reminder that in the NFL, just like in life, anything can happen!
