Patriots Lose Star Linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley to Season-Ending Pec Injury

Patriots' linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley is out for the season due to a pectoral injury, impacting the defense.

New England Patriots linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley is set to miss the remainder of the season due to a torn pectoral muscle, according to multiple media reports that surfaced Monday night.

Bentley sustained what was initially termed a shoulder injury during the first quarter of Sunday’s 23-20 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks. At first, ESPN reported Monday that the injury was thought to be non-serious.

The Patriots (1-1) face a short week, as Bentley was scheduled to play this Thursday against the New York Jets. However, the 28-year-old will now assume a different role for the team and will serve as a scout for the rest of the season. Bentley has already made a significant impact with 12 tackles and half a sack in the first two games of the season.

Throughout his seven NFL seasons—all donning the Patriots uniform—Bentley has been a force to reckon with. He has racked up an impressive 509 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles in 83 career games, with 68 of those being starts.

It’s certainly a blow to see Bentley sidelined, but knowing his fierce dedication and passion for the game, there’s no doubt he’ll continue to contribute mightily to the Patriots, albeit from a different angle. Here’s wishing him a swift and full recovery!
