QBs Shocked as Eagles’ Bold Play Bypasses Pass

Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning, and Eli Manning were all astounded by the Eagles' choice to pass rather than run.

On Monday night, the Eagles found themselves in crunch-time, leading the Falcons 18-15 late in the fourth quarter. Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning, and Eli Manning, combined veterans of 782 NFL starts, offered their seasoned insights on the ManningCast, emphasizing the criticality of clock management. With the Eagles facing a pivotal moment, the trio was unanimous: keep the ball on the ground and burn that clock.

Ryan joined the Manning brothers as they closely monitored Eagles coach Nick Sirianni’s decisions. As the two-minute warning approached, all three were practically shouting from the virtual sidelines, cautioning against a pass play.

“I don’t think the ball’s going in the air again,” Ryan confidently stated.

Clock Management Crisis

But Sirianni had other plans. On a crucial third-and-3, he called a pass to running back Saquon Barkley, who unfortunately dropped it, stopping the clock and gifting the Falcons an extra 40 precious seconds. Moments later, the Falcons capitalized, scoring a touchdown with just 34 seconds left to seal the deal.

Eli and Peyton were beside themselves, recognizing that the Eagles’ pass attempt was the Falcons’ only lifeline.

The Brothers’ Insight

As the Falcons burned their final timeouts, Eli quipped, “Think they’ll get the ball back, Peyton?” To which Peyton replied, "If Philly throws it."

Eli laughed it off, “They’re not gonna throw it,” convinced common sense would prevail. Even Ryan chimed in, solidifying their consensus, “This ball shouldn’t go in the air the rest of the game.”

Peyton anticipated another strategy, predicting the Eagles would employ the renowned “tush push” on third-and-3, and potentially on fourth down if needed.

"The push is coming. You can’t throw it here," Peyton emphasized.

But to everyone’s astonishment, the Eagles opted for a pass. Again. Incomplete. Clock stopped. Falcons ecstatic.

Unbelievable Decision

“That’s why you don’t throw,” Peyton declared. “Kirk Cousins is over there celebrating. As soon as he saw him drop back, he said, ‘Yes!’”

This pass attempt, an ill-fated decision that even armchair coaches could see coming, was a jaw-dropping moment of the young NFL season. Three elite quarterbacks, veterans of countless high-stakes scenarios, were virtually on their knees begging the Eagles to reconsider, but to no avail.

Monday night’s game will be a talking point for weeks to come, a testament to the fact that in the wild world of the NFL, sometimes common sense gets punted right out the window.
