Shane Steichen: Anthony Richardson’s Exciting Journey Ahead

Coach Shane Steichen believes Anthony Richardson's performance will be exceptional and exciting to watch.

Colts’ Anthony Richardson Shines and Stumbles in Preseason Finale

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson faced a rollercoaster of emotions in Thursday’s preseason finale, a performance he candidly labeled as “decent.” Although his night had peaks and valleys, Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen preferred a more upbeat assessment.

Steichen’s Positive Outlook

“I thought it was good,” Steichen shared in the postgame press conference. “That first drive was really good. There was some miscommunication stuff on one of the plays, but to get him out there again, running around with those guys and getting that quarter, quarter-and-a-half, it was great to see. You saw some explosiveness that he had on the first drive and made some really good throws. I think he was seven of eight of that first drive, so it was great to get him out there.”

The Numbers Game: Richardson’s Performance

Richardson was on the field for five series, wrapping up with 8-for-14 for 86 yards, a touchdown, an interception, and 3 rushing yards. Despite a narrative punctuated by a pick-six late in the first quarter due to miscommunication with his receiver, Steichen held an unwavering stance, “I’m not concerned about that,” he reassured. Missed throws? Also a non-issue for the coach.

Ball Security Woes

However, one area where Richardson needs to tighten up is securing the football. The quarterback was strip-sacked, yet the gods smiled upon the Colts as they recovered the fumble. “You just have to have **two hands on the ball** right there,” Steichen advised. “You never know where guys are coming from, and the opponent came from behind when he rolled out to the left. Just getting two hands on it.”

Counting Down to the Season Opener

With the preseason now in the rearview mirror, the focus shifts to gearing up for the season opener against the division-rival Texans on September 8th. “He’s played what, four-and-a-half games? To get out there and be his first full season, which we’re looking forward to, I just go back to his **playmaking ability**,” Steichen reflected. “He’ll make some huge plays for us this year. I think it’s going to be awesome and fun to watch.”

The clock ticks down, and Colts fans, brace yourselves. This season promises a thrilling ride with Richardson at the helm. ¡Va a ser una temporada de locura!
