Shedeur Sanders Reacts to Texas Tech’s Tortilla Incident: A Surprising Take

Shedeur Sanders reflects on the unsettling experience of Texas Tech fans throwing tortillas during the game.

Shedeur Sanders, the talented quarterback for Colorado, faced a unique challenge during his recent game against Texas Tech. While he respected the Red Raiders as a formidable opponent, he found himself puzzled by a peculiar tradition: the throwing of tortillas. This unusual custom left him wondering about the norms of college football culture, especially when food started flying through the air.

Understanding the Tradition

“Like, coach was saying that during the week, but I’m like, I don’t know what he’s talking about, because I didn’t think that type of stuff was, like, possible,” Sanders shared on his podcast, 2Legendary. “I didn’t think it was legal or anything, but I guess it was just normal there. You know, you got tortillas flying on people’s jerseys and the back of their heads and all that type of stuff. It just felt really wrong, bro.”

It’s not uncommon for newcomers to be taken aback by certain traditions at different schools. For Sanders, witnessing tortillas raining down during the game was an eye-opening experience. Along with the tortillas, other debris, like water bottles, added to the chaotic atmosphere, making it a memorable outing for the Colorado QB.

Game Day Performance

Despite the distractions, Sanders and the Buffaloes managed to find their rhythm after initially falling behind 13-0. The team rallied to secure a 41-27 victory, showcasing their resilience and determination. Sanders had an impressive outing, completing 30 of 43 passes for 291 yards and throwing three touchdowns. He even added a rushing touchdown to his impressive stat line.

With this win, Colorado improved to 7-2, putting them in a strong position to control their destiny for the Big 12 Championship and potentially the College Football Playoff. In contrast, Texas Tech’s record fell to 6-4, leaving them with plenty to ponder as they move forward.

Texas Tech’s Challenge

Sanders had high praise for Texas Tech, acknowledging their talent and competitive spirit. “I feel like, overall, Texas Tech as a team, they’re a great team,” he remarked. “They had a great defense. Defensive coaches had a great scheme, and they started out with a (fast) start.” Despite the early deficit, Sanders emphasized the importance of staying focused and not panicking. “Don’t look at the scoreboard. That was the motto to the offense. Don’t look at the scoreboard. Don’t matter. We gotta go out there, we gotta score.”

The Buffaloes faced a series of challenges early in the game, including multiple punts, but they eventually found their footing. “So then consecutively, we punted, punted, punted, punted, then we finally got in the end zone. So that’s kind of like what gave us our spark. It gave everybody confidence that we finally arrived,” he explained.

Support from the Fans

Beyond the game itself, Sanders also highlighted the role of passionate fans, particularly a super fan named Miss Peggy. She has become a symbol of hope and energy for the team. “Miss Peggy in her own tremendous, loving way, she gives all of us hope,” said Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father and head coach of Colorado. “She gives all of us that unspeakable joy. That love. That respect.”

Deion Sanders expressed his gratitude for the connection they share with Miss Peggy, emphasizing how her presence energizes the team. “You guys thought I was joking. I was really dedicated to getting Peggy to a bowl game. Now we’re trying to get Peggy to THE game. It was a bowl game. Now it’s THE game.”

Looking Ahead

As the season progresses, the Buffaloes are focused on their ultimate goal: making a significant impact in the postseason. The win against Texas Tech not only boosts their confidence but also solidifies their position in the race for the Big 12 Championship. With a record of 7-2, every game counts as they aim for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Sanders’ performance, combined with the support from fans like Miss Peggy, creates a powerful narrative for the Colorado program. It’s a story of resilience, community, and the passion that makes college football so special. As they prepare for their next challenge, the Buffaloes are ready to embrace the journey ahead, tortillas and all.

In the world of college football, it’s these moments—both on and off the field—that define a season. As Sanders continues to lead his team, fans can expect thrilling performances and unforgettable experiences in the weeks to come.
