Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is set to undergo an MRI on his ankle, according to an NFL Network report released Monday. The injury, which Mixon attributed to a now-banned hip-drop tackle, occurred during Sunday night’s thrilling win over the Chicago Bears.
Despite the apparent severity of the play, no flag was thrown during the game.
Mixon was injured in the third quarter after a tackle by Bears linebacker TJ Edwards. Although Mixon returned to the field, he only threw the ball once more over seven plays in the first half after his return.
“The NFL and NFLPA made this a rule and an emphasis for a reason. It’s time to practice what you preach,” Mixon posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning, emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement of the rules.

Mixon wrapped up the game with 25 yards rushing on nine carries and caught three passes for 25 yards. His performance was commendable given the circumstances.
“Joe got hit. The player was definitely on his ankle. It didn’t look good from my perspective,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans expressed after the game. “We’ll evaluate Joe during the week. Hopefully, he’ll be OK. We’ll have to look at the film and see if it was really a hip drop tackle.”
This injury is a significant blow, especially considering Mixon’s strong start to the season, rushing for 184 yards and scoring a touchdown over two games. Additionally, he’s been a reliable receiver with six receptions for 44 yards.
The NFL community will undoubtedly be awaiting further updates on Mixon’s condition. As #Texans fans, we all hope to see him back to full strength and continuing his powerhouse performances. Let’s rally behind him as he recovers!
