Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Watchlist: Week 12
Reminder: This list was crafted in anticipation of Week 11, looking ahead to the players who could become popular waiver wire targets for Week 12. If you have a roster spot available, these are free agent options you might want to grab early to beat the waiver buzz.
All these players are below 50 percent ownership on either ESPN or Yahoo unless otherwise specified.
Week 12 Fantasy Waiver Wire Watchlist: Quarterbacks
Russell Wilson, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers (39%/51%)
Reason: Favorable opponent schedule
Time Frame: Rest of season
Last week, we recommended picking up Russ, and he delivered with a three-touchdown performance that showcased his ability to make big plays despite some hiccups. You can’t complain about landing QB10 for free! While his ownership is on the rise, he remains available in many leagues, making him a solid option to consider.
The Steelers haven’t even started their AFC North schedule yet, and the division isn’t the defensive juggernaut it once was. The Bengals and Ravens rank fourth and fifth in DVOA-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, respectively, while the Browns are just about average. With three-quarters of Pittsburgh’s remaining schedule looking favorable, Wilson has a great chance to maintain his fantasy relevance.
Jameis Winston, QB, Cleveland Browns (10%/7%)
Reason: High risk, high reward
Time Frame: Rest of season
Winston received a “Vote of Confidence” from coach Kevin Stefanski, confirming he’ll remain the starter as the Browns navigate the rest of the season. Known for his volatility, Winston has shown both brilliance and blunders this year, with a standout performance of 23.6 fantasy points followed by a disappointing outing with three interceptions.
While he may not be the most reliable option week-to-week, if you’re scouring the waiver wire, you’re likely looking for a gamble. Winston could easily deliver a top-tier fantasy performance on any given week, making him a worthwhile risk.
Week 12 Fantasy Waiver Wire Watchlist: Running Backs
Audric Estime, RB, Denver Broncos (42%/25%)
Reason: Gaining control of the backfield
Time Frame: Rest of season
Sean Payton hinted last week that Estime’s workload would increase, and it certainly did—he outpaced Javonte Williams with 14 carries to just three. With Estime proving to be the most effective back in Denver, this shift in workload is promising for fantasy managers.
Estime boasts a rushing DVOA of 5.3%, a stark contrast to Williams’ -25.9%. This newfound clarity in the Denver backfield could be a game-changer as we head into the final stretch of the season.
Tyjae Spears, RB, Tennessee Titans (47%/46%)
Reason: Return to health
Time Frame: Rest of season
After three weeks sidelined with a hamstring injury, Spears returned to action against the Chargers, showcasing solid performance metrics. While he’s currently the RB2 behind Tony Pollard, Spears has the potential to step up, especially if Pollard’s lower back injury lingers.
Even if Pollard stays healthy, Spears is projected to see 30-40% of the snaps, and his role appears to be expanding. He’s a smart stash option for fantasy managers looking to bolster their backfield.
Week 12 Fantasy Waiver Wire Watchlist: Wide Receivers
Ricky Pearsall, WR, San Francisco 49ers (44%/33%)
Reason: Increased workload
Time Frame: Rest of season
With Brandon Aiyuk sidelined, Pearsall has stepped up as the 49ers’ third receiver, recently setting career highs in targets and receiving yards. He’s been a rising star, accumulating 39 receiving DYAR over the past three weeks—impressive considering he’s done this in just two games due to a bye week.
While the 49ers have a wealth of offensive talent, Pearsall has proven he deserves a significant share of the production. With Brock Purdy at the helm, there’s plenty of opportunity for him to shine.
Jerry Jeudy, WR, Cleveland Browns (48%/54%)
Reason: High floor
Time Frame: Rest of season
Jeudy has benefitted from Winston’s presence, consistently surpassing 70 receiving yards in both of Winston’s starts. This is a notable improvement from his performance with Deshaun Watson. Jeudy’s volume is a valuable asset, and while he may be at the mercy of Winston’s inconsistencies, his high floor makes him a reliable option moving forward.
Week 12 Fantasy Waiver Wire Watchlist: Tight Ends
Noah Fant, TE, Seattle Seahawks (21%/5%)
Reason: Improved health
Time Frame: Weeks 12-18
While Fant is still recovering from a groin injury, he’s expected to return soon. He currently ranks high among tight ends in receiving DYAR and DVOA, making him a valuable stash if you have an open roster spot. If he can return to form, he could be a significant contributor down the stretch.
Zach Ertz, TE, Washington Commanders (33%/57%)
Reason: Heavy workload
Time Frame: Rest of season
Ertz remains a top streaming option, ranking second on Washington in targets. He’s a reliable checkdown option for quarterback Jayden Daniels, making him a consistent source of PPR points. If you’re in need of tight end help, Ertz is worth considering.
As we navigate the final stretch of the fantasy season, remember to stay proactive on the waiver wire. The right additions could make all the difference as you push for playoff glory!
