Top tight ends to start or sit for fantasy football in Week 10

It’s Week 10, folks! Time to set those fantasy lineups! Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em is the ultimate look at the best and worst matchups in a given week for fantasy football leagues. Each week, I’ll examine the tight ends who could exceed or fail to meet expectations based on their weekly opponent … like Cade Otton and Tucker Kraft in Week 9!

For your final lineup decisions, check out my fantasy player rankings. I update them daily! Also, make sure you subscribe to the Fantasy Dirt Podcast with Lindsay Rhodes and me as we break down all things fantasy football five days a week!

Start of the Week

Jake Ferguson vs. Eagles (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS): Ferguson, listed as a start ‘em last week, posted 14.1 points in a loss to the Falcons. Despite a challenging matchup on paper this week—given that the Eagles have not allowed a touchdown to a tight end—volume can often outweigh the matchup. With four teams on a bye and CeeDee Lamb nursing an injury, expect Ferguson to see plenty of targets in this crucial NFC East clash.

TEs With Good Matchups

  1. Dalton Kincaid at Colts (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Kincaid has not quite lived up to the high-end fantasy expectations set in the preseason, but he’s been getting a lot of targets lately. He had 10 last week and has not seen fewer than six targets in his last six games. This week, he faces a Colts defense that has allowed five tight ends to score at least 12.4 points, including four who have surpassed 16 points and two who have gone over 20.

  2. T.J. Hockenson at Jaguars (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Hockenson made his season debut last week, scoring just 5.7 points in a win over the Colts. However, he played 33 snaps and should see an increase in both snaps and targets as the Vikings head to Duval County. The Jaguars’ defense has been vulnerable to tight ends, allowing five to score over 11 points, with four tight ends surpassing 16 points in the last month.

  3. Taysom Hill vs. Falcons (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Hill came through for fantasy managers last week with a touchdown and 16 fantasy points. Given the Saints’ injury woes, the NFL’s “Swiss Army knife” is likely to see both carries and targets, especially in the red zone. The matchup is favorable, as the Falcons have given up the eighth-most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends this season.

TEs With Bad Matchups

Sam LaPorta at Texans (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC): It’s tough to sit LaPorta with four teams on a bye, but he hasn’t been the same fantasy asset he was as a rookie. He’s only scored double digits in two games this season, including just 4.8 points last week. This weekend’s contest in Houston presents a tough challenge; only two tight ends have scored more than 7.2 points against the Texans, and no tight end has managed to score more than 13.1 points against them in 2024.

Sit of the Week

Dalton Schultz vs. Lions (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC): Schultz has had some favorable matchups this season but has consistently failed to capitalize. He has been held to single digits in every game and averages just 5.6 fantasy points. With the Lions not allowing a tight end to score more than 10.7 points this season, it’s best to keep Schultz on the bench this weekend.

Other Sit ‘Em Candidates

  • Cole Kmet vs. Patriots (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Kmet has the potential for a big game, but he’s been inconsistent this season. He’s been held to single digits in any game where he hasn’t scored 24 or more points (only twice). While the matchup against the Patriots looks decent on paper, starting Kmet comes with a lot of uncertainty. He’s more of a dart-throw starter for those desperate due to bye weeks.

  • Zach Ertz vs. Steelers (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Ertz had his worst game of the season last week, scoring just 1.5 fantasy points and seeing a season-low one target. While you can expect those numbers to improve, don’t be shocked if his performance remains mediocre. The Steelers have allowed just one tight end to score more than 13 points, and tight ends have averaged only 41.3 receiving yards against them.
