In 2023, Travis Kelce played the fewest snaps in a season since his second year in 2014. The tight end, though, still maintained his pivotal role in the Chiefs’ offense, participating in a whopping 77 percent of the snaps over 15 games — a total of 775. Despite his reduced snaps, Kelce led the team in targets (121), catches (93), and receiving yards (984).
No Signs of Slowing Down
As he approaches his 35th birthday in October, Kelce has shown no signs of slowing down. When asked if he’d listen to the Chiefs if they wanted to tweak his role due to his age, Kelce’s response was clear-cut: he “probably wouldn’t listen.”
“You get more comfortable with your body,” Kelce remarked, likening his experience to a tailor who refines his precision with each stitch. “You learn from past mistakes and continually improve, becoming more aware of where your body is at.”
Chasing Glory with a Fresh Slate
The forthcoming season excites Kelce. “I get to play another year of football with a fresh slate. We have the opportunity to prove to ourselves and Chiefs Kingdom that we’re among the top dogs and can compete at a high level.” His passion for football is unwavering.
Kelce’s skills go beyond the gridiron; his interests branch out into dating singer Taylor Swift, acting, and hosting a podcast with his brother, Jason. Their New Heights podcast struck gold with Amazon’s Wondery, netting a $100 million deal.
Unwavering Commitment to Football
Despite these ventures, Kelce’s passion for football remains steadfast. He made his ninth consecutive Pro Bowl last year, although he fell short of the 1,000-yard mark for the first time since 2015.
Kelce ranks fourth among tight ends in career receptions (907) and receiving yards (11,328). He is just 49 catches and 514 yards away from surpassing Antonio Gates for third place, trailing only Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten.
“I just love coming in here,” Kelce said, his eyes lighting up like a kid in a candy store. “Football takes me away from life. It gives me something I can feel genuinely happy about. I enjoy coming to the building, working on my craft, understanding new game plans, and perfecting them for the team around me. It gives me a purpose.”
Forever Grateful
“I’m forever fortunate to play as many games as I have in this league,” Kelce continued, akin to a seasoned traveler relishing every new journey. “That’s why I enjoy going out there every single day, even if it’s just practice, to really work on my craft. Not everyone gets that fortune in their career, and I am ready to rock Week 1. I’m thankful for it.”
Kelce’s journey in the NFL is far from over. Chiefs fans and football enthusiasts alike eagerly await what new heights he will reach, both on and off the field.
