Vikings Boost Roster: Stephon Gilmore Joins Squad, New WR Added!

The Vikings have bolstered their roster by signing cornerback Stephon Gilmore and adding a new wide receiver.

The Minnesota Vikings made a significant splash in free agency on Monday by officially signing five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore in a series of strategic moves. Although the Vikings did not disclose the specific terms of the contract, multiple reports on Sunday indicated that the deal is worth $10 million, with $7 million of that guaranteed.

In addition to Gilmore, the Vikings also announced the signing of 2022 undrafted wide receiver Justin Hall. To make room for these additions, the team waived kicker Seth Vernon and receiver Ty James.

Gilmore, who visited the Vikings last week, will turn 34 on September 19. The two-time All-Pro exhibited remarkable consistency last season, recording 68 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble while starting all 17 games for the Dallas Cowboys. Over his stellar career, spanning notable stints with the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, and Cowboys, Gilmore has amassed 561 tackles, 31 interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 165 career games (158 starts).

This move underscores a pressing need for the Vikings, particularly in their secondary defense, following the unfortunate injury of Mekhi Blackmon, who suffered a torn ACL in training camp last month. Blackmon, the Southern California product, was projected as a leading candidate to fill the third cornerback spot this season, after the tragic passing of rookie Khyree Jackson in a car crash on July 6.

On the offensive side, Hall will be looking to make his mark after an impressive journey through the ranks. Though he went to training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and was released during roster cuts, Hall showcased his talents in the UFL’s Houston Roughnecks in 2024 and the USFL’s Houston Gamblers in 2023. His addition to the team certainly adds depth and a wealth of potential.

Fans of the Vikings should be thrilled with the acquisition of a talent like Gilmore. This isn’t just about filling a spot on the roster; it’s about bringing in proven talent and experience that can help elevate the team’s performance to new heights. With passionate hearts and strategic minds, the Vikings are clearly locking in on their goal for the season: dominating the gridiron.
