Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams faces a two-game suspension for violating the league's PED policy.

Detroit Lions’ Jameson Williams Accepts Suspension

In a surprising turn of events, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will not be appealing his two-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. The talented receiver expressed his shock at the failed test that led to this latest suspension, describing the news as a “complete surprise.”

The NFL officially confirmed the reports on Thursday afternoon, confirming that Williams will miss the upcoming home matchup against the Tennessee Titans this Sunday and the highly anticipated game against the Green Bay Packers on November 3. The Lions, currently holding a solid 5-1 record, are set to face the Houston Texans on November 10.

Through his agent, Rocky Arceneaux of Alliance Sports, Williams released a statement regarding the situation:

“This week the NFL notified me that I was suspended for a violation of the performance-enhancing substances policy,” he shared. “The news was a total surprise that I’m still trying to understand. I do not take supplements or vitamins and am very cautious even with over-the-counter medications. I have never taken anything with the intent to cheat or seek an unfair advantage. I understand that I am responsible for everything that enters my body and must take responsibility in this case.”

Williams went on to express his deep appreciation for the game, his teammates, coaches, and the Lions organization, stating, “It is disappointing to accept this suspension and it will hurt to be away from the team while preparing for this week. So, out of respect for my colleagues, this will be the last time I address this topic.”

Lions head coach Dan Campbell voiced his support for Williams during Wednesday’s press conference. “I trust this guy,” Campbell stated. “Unfortunately, you have to pay for your sins. Something happens, and if this thing falls apart, so be it. But I know one thing: we hung a rope on the way up. We can’t wait for anyone to come. More than a year ago, he started climbing and reached us. Maybe he lost control, but he’ll come back up. That rope is still attached to us, and he’ll be fine. He’s part of this team, and I trust him.”

The 23-year-old receiver previously faced a four-game suspension in 2023 for using a mobile device to bet on non-NFL games while at team facilities, showcasing the challenges he has faced in his young career. Drafted 12th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Alabama, Williams missed 11 games in his rookie season due to an ACL injury suffered in his final college game. In his 24 career games (14 starts), he has recorded 42 receptions on 81 targets for 756 yards and six touchdowns.

As Williams navigates this latest challenge, the Lions organization and fans alike will be eagerly awaiting his return to the field, hoping to see him thrive once more in the vibrant atmosphere of the NFL.
